Atatürk House in Bigalı Village

Bigali village and its environs also known by the names of “Çamyayla” and “Boğalı” were used by the 19th Division as the sites of bivouacs in April, 1915. Meanwhile, the house in which Staff Lieutenant-Colonel Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) was hosted during his stay, was converted into a museum known as Atatürk House and Museum in later years. Today it is the most visited place of the Historical Site in Gallipoli.

The 19th Division, which was deployed as the general reserve force of the 5th Army on March 26th, 1915 in the area of Bigali and its environs, spent its time by doing military exercises and war games. Staff Lieutenant-Colonel Mustafa Kemal, who arrived at this village on April 19th, 1915 with his 19th Division and stayed in this house until he moved to the battlefield of Anzac on the morning of April 25th with his division. In 1969, a committee by the name of Çamyayla (Bigali) Atatürk House, was set up and purchased this house from its owners. And then in 1973 it was turned into a museum and unveiled to public visit by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Restoration work was started by the Directorate of the Gallipoli Historical Site and was completed in 2018 for visitors again.
